Carpet Fibres

Polypropylene

Polypropylene carpets are manufactured using synthetic fibres. They have many similar properties to nylon carpets, however, do have a different texture.

Polypropylene carpets have excellent colour fastness properties and also contain antistatic properties. Polypropylene yarns provide value for budget-conscious customers. Often these carpets are utilised for rental properties or even an investor home.

Generally, these carpets come in many different designs from level loop to a textured loop pile and all have between 5 – 10 years warranties.

Polyester

Polyester carpets are less expensive than your Wool, Nylon and Solution Dyed Nylons, however they do feel and can be mistaken for a Nylon, due to how soft they feel. This carpet is suited to low traffic areas such as bedrooms. However, stairs and living areas may require a higher quality of carpet to endure the everyday wear and tear.

Polyester carpet comes with superior colourfastness and is supported with warranties. These carpets are cost effective and offer a great new look and can be purchased in any weight and look you desire.

Nylon (SPF)

Nylon carpets that are dyed after construction are available in a wide range of vibrant colours with long lasting colour fastness warranties.

Fade resistance is built into the carpet and doesn’t wear off, giving you the confidence to open up your home and let the sunshine in!

Great stain resistance properties that make it easy to clean. Nylon carpets have been around for decades and the life of the carpet exceeds what most family households need.

If you can imagine it, then you can make it out of nylon carpet.

Solution Dyed Nylon (SND)

SDN Carpets offer complete consistency in colour as well as improved colour fastness against light. It offers durability and superior stain resistance.

Because SDN carpet is non-porous, it can resist stains and odours. This type of carpet comes in many colours, designs and textures—all of which would be suitable for your home or any project you may have. Also, some are fire-retardant for commercial use.

Solution Dyed Nylon carpets are today the most brought carpets in the world.

Wool

Wool is a natural fibre from sheep or alpaca. Most commonly sold is from sheep—wool is renewable and sustainable. Wool has a different feel to any other synthetic carpet. The natural source of lanolin in the fibre gives you a natural soft luxurious feel.

Wool fibres are the strongest fibre you can find—they are stain and soiling resistant. Wool absorbs noise and is also flame retardant and can be used in both domestic and commercial areas. Natural fibre from sheep wool is renewable and sustainable. Wool’s natural properties keep your home cool in summer and warm in winter.

Mixing synthetic fibre with wool can help to hold the twist definition in some carpet styles, providing improved wearing ability and reduced shedding from short fibres.

Comfort

There is no arguing with the fact that carpeting is the most comfortable and cosy option for flooring in your home. There is nothing better than letting your feet sink into a plush carpet in the living room or your bedroom.

Winter Warmth

Along with being comfortable, a carpet can actually produce a more comfortable climate inside your home. Carpets have been proven to keep hold of warm air for longer, which means that in winter months carpeted rooms will feel more pleasant to spend time in. Nobody can argue against the fact that carpets help to give a room a warmer feel overall.

Because of the warmth retention qualities that we have already highlighted, another great positive of carpeting is the fact that those who have it throughout their homes tend to save on their energy bills across the year. How Our Top-Quality Carpets are Made

The practice of making carpets is a tradition that has been upheld for many centuries. While the method itself can vary between cultures and individual carpet-makers, it will always begin with the yarn. Whether wool, nylon, polypropylene, or a blend, this yearn will be spun and dyed to give it its colouring.

Then, the process differs depending on whether it is a tufted carpet or a woven carpet being made.

For a tufted carpet, the more efficient and modern choice, yarn is passed through a tufting machine where it is pulled by a looper until it reaches the right pile height (the height of the yarn vertically from the base of the carpet). When making saxony, twist, or velvet carpets, the yarn loops are cut to create a comforting soft texture. On the other hand, for loop or berber carpets, the loops are left uncut – these are usually firmer than the alternative and good for high traffic areas.

The more traditional approach is the woven carpet. This is constructed on a loom, weaving the yarn through both the primary and secondary backing to create a carpet that feels much firmer underfoot. These are typically durable and hard-wearing products that can be created in intricate and detailed patterns.

There are many types of carpets, including:

  • Cut pile: A cut pile carpet has fibres that are cut to the same length, creating a smooth, uniform surface. There are several types of cut pile carpets, including plush, velvet, saxony and frieze.
  • Loop pile: A loop pile carpet has fibres that are looped rather than cut, creating a textured surface. There are several types of loop pile carpets, including Berber and level loop.
  • Cut and loop pile: A cut and loop pile carpet has a combination of cut and looped fibres, creating a patterned surface.

There are several ways to blend two types of flooring, such as carpet and timber:

  • Use a transition strip: A transition strip is a strip of wood, metal or other material that is used to bridge the gap between two types of flooring. Transition strips can be used to blend carpet and timber flooring, as well as other types of flooring.
  • Use a carpet tile: Carpet tiles are small squares of carpet that can be installed over a variety of surfaces, including timber. By using carpet tiles, you can create a seamless transition between the two types of flooring.
  • Use a runner: A runner is a strip of carpet that is used to cover a central area of a room. By using a runner, you can create a transition between the two types of flooring without having to install a full carpet.

There are several steps you can take to ensure that your carpet doesn’t fade in the sun:

  • Use window treatments: Install window treatments such as blinds, shades or curtains to block direct sunlight from hitting your carpet.
  • Use UV-protective film: Apply UV-protective film to your windows to block out harmful UV rays that can fade your carpet.
  • Rotate your furniture: Move your furniture around regularly to prevent any one area of your carpet from being exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time.
  • Use rugs: Use area rugs or throw rugs to cover areas of your carpet that are exposed to direct sunlight.
Neutral-coloured carpets, such as beige, grey or taupe, tend to go with every style of decor. These colours are versatile and can easily be paired with a variety of furniture and accessories.
It is generally not recommended to put the same carpet in all rooms of your home. Different rooms may have different functions and needs and choosing different carpets for each room can help ensure that you have the right type of carpet for each space. For example, you may want to choose a plush carpet for a bedroom, but a more durable loop pile carpet for a high-traffic area such as a hallway.
